Bringing Down the House

Chapter Summaries

Chapter 1

It is Kevin’s turn at the betting table; he is up thirty thousand dollars. The others have placed their bets and are anxiously awaiting him. He appears to be drunk and vaguely disoriented, but this is a guise: he is in fact perfectly sober and looking for cues from his Spotter, an attractive red-head across the room. He is looking for a gesture from her which will indicate how much he should bet, but instead is given the “abort” sign. Kevin and his friend (both MIT students) exit the casino just in time to avoid three large men in suits looking for them.
