In his third memoir, Irish American author Frank McCourt takes the reader through 30 years of teaching High School in New York City. Although the bulk of the book centers around his experiences as an educator, the book does not limit itself to classroom anecdotes. McCourt gives attention to his days as a laborer before he began teaching, his experiences during his teacher training, and his life outside of the classroom during his tenure; which includes the entire span of a marriage.
This is essentially part three of McCourt’s autobiography (parts one and two being Angela’s Ashes and ‘Tis). It employs the same lyrical writing style as the other two works, and deals with the subject matter with the same self-doubting introspection. His style is very engaging, and at times incredibly funny.
